JAZZ AT MEADE
Honoring the Tradition
Jazz and Beyond
There is a little church in OldTown, Alexandria that is bringing its own spin to some exciting jazz events that are not to be missed. Jazz at Meade is a concert series which takes place most third Sunday afternoons from April to November each year. Over the years, Professional Jazz Musicians have brought an exciting array of musical expression to this intimate community venue. Marshall Keys, George V. Johnson, Jr., Dick Morgan, Anita King, Will Smith, Ephriam Wolfolk, Al Williams, Project Natale, Sandra Y. Johnson, The Vibe Collective (Latin Jazz), Nasar Abadey, Paul Carr, Tony Craddock, Jr., Vaughn Ambrose, Ronny Smith, Anna Mwalagho, The Unified Jazz Ensemble, Bruce Swaim, The Jolley Brothers, Kenny Sanders, Deandre Shaifer, Joel Holmes, Maurice Lyles, George Botts, Bertel Knox, Juedienne Gordon, Donvonte McCoy, L'Tanya Mari' and Yvonne Johnson are some of the area's top artists who have graced the stage at Jazz at Meade.
Walt Whitman said, "Jazz came to America three hundred years ago in chains." Today Jazz has escaped the shackles; it is layered with cultural influences that are ancestral and American. This dynamic musical genre has been embraced and given space for expression at Meade Memorial Church. Please plan to join other jazz enthusiasts from around the area for an afternoon of wonderful music, great conversation, and refreshments.
